Environmental

Wasted Heroes is an environmentally conscious company. All our garments are organic, ethical, and climate neutral, and are sourced from verified ethical manufacturers. They are then hand screen-printed with Permaset® eco-friendly water-based inks by our highly skilled in-house printer.

The Garments

Our garments are 100% organic and certified as EarthPositive®. Organic Indian cotton is used to produce our product range, and the entire production process is controlled and certified in accordance with the latest GOTS.

The manufacture of our garments has been verified as ethical with 100% of the EarthPositive® production undergoing annual audits in order to comply with the FWF Code of Labour Practices in accordance with the International Labour Organisation conventions.

The Carbon footprint of our manufacturing process has been reduced by 90% (the calculations are certified under the PAS2050 standard). Our EarthPositive® garments are manufactured in facilities powered by green renewable energy, from low-impact raw materials.

When sourcing our base garments, we pay a premium price so that a percentage is payed directly to the manufacturing staff in India to top-up their living wage. Our garments are manufactured at a state-of-the-art factory in rural Bangladesh.

Vegan fashion – clothes, shoes and accessories that contain no leather, fur, wool, skin, exotic skins or any other animal-derived fabric – is revolutionising the way that we shop and dress.
As more and more people vow never to clothe themselves in cruelty, retailers and designers are meeting the demand for animal-friendly clothes in style.

Although you can easily find fashionable animal-free products in many high-street stores, some companies go further, either by ensuring that everything they sell is 100 per cent vegan or by clearly sign-posting their vegan products. The “PETA-Approved Vegan” logo is a way of recognising these progressive compassionate businesses – and helping ethical consumers identify where to shop with confidence, safe in the knowledge that they’re not supporting the exploitation of animals.

The products containing the OEKO-TEX symbol in our size guide link have been tested and certified under OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 Class I by Shirley Technologies in England under certificate number 11-20489 since 2004.

The OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 is an independent testing and certification system for textile raw materials, intermediate and end products at all stages of production.

The testing for harmful substances always focuses on the actual use of the textile. The more intensive the skin contact of a product, the stricter the human ecological requirements to be met. The Continental Clothing certificate meets Class I criteria for textile items for babies and toddlers up to 3 years, the highest of the four classes of certification.

Fair Wear Foundation is an independent, non-profit organization striving to improve working conditions in the textile industry. The foundation is an initiative by trade organizations in the textile sector, trade unions and NGO's.

Fair Wear Foundation verifies that member companies implement the Code of Labour Practice along their supply chain, and checks compliance by monitoring audits and remediation efforts. Annual reporting by member companies and by FWF itself promotes transparency at all levels.

Our main garment suppliers Continental Clothing and STANLEY/STELLA are both Fair Wear leaders.

Permaset Aqua inks do not contain ozone depleting chemicals such as CFC’s or HCFC’s. They are also formulated free of aromatic hydrocarbons. Permaset is free of volatile organic solvent and does not contain PVC resin or phthalate plasticiser.

Packaging

In line with the rest of our environmentally conscious practise, we opted to choose a range of biodegradable packing and mailing bags plus eco-friendly boxes made from 100% recycled materials. Choosing to opt for environmentally friendly packaging limited us on a creative basis, however we believe that our garments speak for themselves and don’t need highly decorative packaging. We believe that offering this less decorative environmentally friendly packing option is much better than using highly decorative printed plastic alternative.

It’s a wonderful world! Let’s all do our bit to keep it that way.
